Marathon’s Favorite WSTR Shotgun Gets Another “Hawa Tight” Nerf!

But it seems Bungie thinks the WSTR is still a bit too dominant. Game director Joe Ziegler himself confirmed on Steam that they’re planning a second nerf, all in an effort to bring the shotgun “more in line.” He explained that the WSTR has become so overpowering that it’s making other weapons irrelevant. So, come this Tuesday’s update, prepare for some changes.

The biggest change? If your opponent is rocking a blue shield (or anything stronger), your trusty WSTR won’t be able to two-shot them anymore. This means you’ll likely need to reload or switch tactics, forcing more counterplay and giving shielded players a fighting chance. Ziegler’s aim is to create more balanced skirmishes where quick thinking and weapon variety are rewarded, not just raw shotgun power.

Now, don’t completely abandon your WSTR just yet! Ziegler also mentioned that the shotgun will still be perfectly capable of taking down players with green shields in two shots. This means it will remain a powerful and effective option, especially for newer players or those exploring the earlier maps where green shields are more common. So, it’s not completely out of the meta, just a bit more balanced for later-game scenarios.

Bungie isn’t shy about making big moves when it comes to Marathon’s gameplay meta, and it’s always interesting to see how things evolve. They’ve been experimenting with stuff like sponsored kits that give everyone free loadouts for a more chill extraction experience. Plus, it’s kinda hilarious how their new Mercy Kits, designed to revive downed rivals, are being cleverly used by some players to finish off opponents twice!
