World of Tanks: Heat – A Fun Spin on Tank Battles That You Shouldn’t Miss!

So, World of Tanks has never really been my thing. I dabbled in it ages ago, but the pay-to-win vibe pretty much turned me off. Fast forward to now, and here I am, giving World of Tanks: Heat a shot—a new hero shooter spin-off currently in closed beta. To be honest, it wasn’t even on my radar until recently, but wow, it’s actually quite the thrill ride!

Now, let’s not get too carried away with calling it purely a hero shooter; it’s got that vibe with abilities and ultimates, but it still carries the core mechanics of World of Tanks. You’ve got location-based damage, where the angle of your shot, the distance, and the type of ammo matter a lot. It’s all about precision; a well-aimed shot can either bounce off or take your tank out of the game.

The game takes place in a “what if” post-WW2 world, filled with sci-fi advances and a bit of global camaraderie. Sounds pretty far-fetched, right? But it’s a fun concept. The promise of fast-paced, “instant action” battles really hit home when I jumped into a 5v5 Kill Confirmed match reminiscent of classic Call of Duty modes. Picture this: I summoned an energy shield in front of my tank while an enemy tried to circle around. Meanwhile, my teammate sniped their fuel tank, sending them to an explosive end. Talk about teamwork!

Wargaming has really stepped it up with this one. The matches are quick and easy to grasp, yet the combat feels refreshingly different from other games. Unlike running and gunning, Heat focuses more on strategy, positioning, and timing. Sure, you’re going to take some hits, but if you know how to protect your tank’s crucial parts and flank effectively, you can really turn the tide of battle.

If you’ve played World of Tanks in the past, you’ll still find aspects that feel familiar, but the smaller match sizes and faster respawns create a gladiatorial atmosphere. Gone are the days of hiding behind bushes while getting shelled from nowhere. Instead, you can actually engage in thrilling combat without the frustration of unseen enemies.

Every time you land a significant hit, you’re greeted with a satisfying “ding” sound, and when you activate your ultimate, it unleashes a cool cutscene where your character calls in a devastating artillery strike. I even managed to pull off a dramatic barrel roll off an aircraft carrier while taking out an opponent—my tank soared through the air and landed without a scratch. It’s absurdly fun!

There’s also a progression system where you can upgrade your tanks and add unique modifiers. I haven’t dived deep into that yet, and since the beta is still running, there’s a chance for things to change—hopefully, they won’t go full pay-to-win on us!

If you’re up for some tank shenanigans and want to show off your sweet moves, you might want to check out the closed beta while it’s still available. It’s a wild ride, and I’m definitely intrigued to see where this new adventure goes!
