Death Stranding 2 Players Just Digitally Outwalked NASA’s Moon Mission!

Ever looked up at the moon and wondered just how far away it actually is? It feels like an impossible journey, right? Even if you could magically drive there, it would take months! Venus, our closest planetary neighbour, is even further – millions of miles away. These are distances that are hard for our minds to grasp, yaar.

But then, humanity always pushes boundaries. Just recently, NASA’s Artemis 2 mission did something incredible. A crew of four brave astronauts – Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Jeremy Hansen – embarked on a historic ten-day journey, flying around the moon and travelling a mind-boggling 700,237 miles. That’s further than any human has ever been!

Now, hold onto your controllers, because here’s where it gets interesting for us gamers. While NASA was busy with real-life space travel, the legends at Kojima Productions decided to track how far their dedicated players were walking in Death Stranding 2. And what they found is absolutely wild! In the exact same ten-day period from April 1st to April 10th, players across both PS5 and PC didn’t just match the astronauts’ journey – they completely surpassed it!

How much further, you ask? Well, while Artemis 2 covered 700,237 miles, Death Stranding 2 players collectively trekked a staggering 969,703 miles delivering packages! That’s almost 270,000 miles more than a state-of-the-art spacecraft flying around the moon! And get this: this incredible total only counts walking. No vehicles, no cruisers, no speedy monorails – just pure, unadulterated digital foot power. Considering you get vehicles pretty early in DS2, unlike the first game, this makes the achievement even more impressive.

Think about it: we, the gaming community, moved our virtual legs enough to beat a historic lunar flyby mission. While it’s definitely easier on our bodies than being cramped in a tiny capsule heading for the moon, it’s still a massive testament to the dedication of gamers worldwide. Especially since the PS5 version launched last year and the PC version was just a month old during this tracking period. Even with concurrent player numbers on Steam hovering between 20-30,000 during that time, we still pulled off this insane feat. Imagine what we could do if we were all playing at peak!

So, next time someone tells you gaming isn’t productive, just tell them we’re busy out-walking astronauts. Huge props to all the porters out there making those deliveries – you’re not just connecting America, you’re setting new digital records for humanity! What an achievement for the gaming world!
