Mastering Fishing in RuneScape: Dragonwilds Made Easy

Fishing in RuneScape: Dragonwilds is super simple once you get the hang of it, but getting started can be a bit tricky. The game isn’t exactly going to roll out the red carpet or hand you a fishing rod to kick things off. Instead, you’ll first need to craft your own fishing gear. But don’t worry; you don’t need any fancy levels or completed quests to dive into fishing. With the right materials at your disposal, you can jump right into it, whether you want to hone your fishing skills or just enjoy a laid-back activity. Here’s how you can become a fishing pro!

To start your fishing journey in RuneScape: Dragonwilds, you’ll need to craft a coarse net. Gather the materials needed at a crafting table, which include:

  • 2x Coarse Thread

Once you’ve crafted your coarse net, make your way to Bramblemead Valley. There, you’ll find the Wise Old Man in a rundown building. Chat with him, and he’ll kick off the Shrimp Catcher quest for you. Your first task is to catch a sardine, but since you’re still a beginner, you’ll be starting with catching shrimp.

Head to the pond located north of the tower, nestled between Temple Woods and Bramblemead Valley. Look for the shimmering patches of water with white ripples—those are your fishing spots! Use your net here, and you’ll catch a mix of items like weeds, stones, and, of course, shrimp. It won’t take long before you reach level 3, unlocking the crafting recipe for an Ash Rod.

To craft your Ash Rod, you’ll need:

  • 1x Ash Log
  • 1x Coarse Thread

Once you’ve got your rod crafted, return to the same pond. This time, look for the larger circles of ripples in the water. These indicate rod fishing spots, where you’ll actually see fish swimming beneath the surface. When you find a good spot, position yourself on the edge and hold down the left mouse button to cast your line. If you’re fishing without bait, be prepared to reel in some junk. But if a fish takes the bait, it’ll start pulling your line left and right!

The trick is to use the A and D keys to tug in the opposite direction of where the fish is swimming. This will wear it out, allowing you to reel it in by clicking the left mouse button. You might have to repeat this a couple of times to finally haul your catch out of the water. Most likely, your first catch will be the sardine you need for your quest, so make sure to head back to the Wise Old Man and hand it over.

In return, you’ll receive some handy items:

  • 1 x Tome of Fishing
  • 3 x Shrimp Bait
  • 3 x Feather Bait

With the quest completed, you’re now free to grab your rod and fish to your heart’s content. There’s nothing stopping you from becoming a fishing fanatic, and honestly, that sounds like a great way to spend your time!
