Framework Unveils Innovative Wireless Keyboard with Customization Options
Framework has surprised everyone by announcing a snazzy new wireless keyboard, complete with a built-in trackpad, ideal for gaming setups or cozy living room use. Just when we thought we knew what to expect from the latest tech, this announcement came out of left field—definitely not something I had on my radar for 2026, but I’m all in!
This creation stems from the company’s experiments with their Desktop PC, where they tested various keyboard and touchpad combos. After trying one that didn’t quite hit the mark, Framework decided to take matters into their own hands and improve on it. A blog post revealed their excitement about the new Touchpad Keyboard, showcasing their commitment to quality and innovation.
In terms of design, the keyboard borrows its framework from the recent Framework 12 laptops. While it doesn’t include the advanced haptics found in the Framework 13 Pro touchpads, it does feature chiclet-style low-profile keys with a comfortable 1.5 mm travel, making it a delight to type on.
The trackpad is a clickable Windows Precision Touchpad, giving you access to all the multi-touch gestures you need for both Windows and Linux. If you’ve ever used the Kinesis Form keyboard, you might find this new offering familiar, though it boasts a more user-friendly design compared to its narrower counterpart.
For the nostalgic gamers out there, you’ll appreciate the translucent rear cover on this keyboard, reminiscent of the Game Boy Advance—definitely a trip down memory lane!
But wait, there’s more! Not only is the keyboard a standalone product, but Framework is also sharing CAD files, allowing you to create custom mounts to integrate this keyboard into your sim rig. Plus, they plan to sell the Control Board, which is equipped with a Nordic nRF54 radio chip for Bluetooth connectivity. This means you can build your very own wireless keyboard or swap the components into a frame that better suits your style.
As for the release date, there’s no specific timeline yet—just a tease that it will be “available later this year.” So stay tuned for more updates!
