JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Steel Ball Run Still Lacks a Theme Song, But Fans Have a Solution!
Recently, the anime adaptation of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Steel Ball Run faced a bit of a rocky start, but hey, fans are generally in a good place now! With a fantastic first episode under its belt and exciting news that the season will drop new episodes weekly starting later this year, the hype is real. However, there’s one burning question on everyone’s mind: where’s the theme song?
As of now, there’s been no announcement regarding the new opening sequence, which is a big deal considering how epic previous tracks have been—think classics like Bloody Stream and Fighting Gold! With such high expectations, fans are eagerly waiting to see if the next one can live up to the hype.
It’s not unusual for anime to kick off without an opening theme, and JoJo’s is known for keeping fans in suspense over key details for ages. I mean, remember when everyone called a character “Gappy” for what felt like forever before his actual name was revealed? Yeah, that’s classic JoJo! But the silence after the first episode is a bit odd, and it got me thinking about a brilliant fan project from 2022 that might just fill that void. The theme, titled Holy Steel, was crafted by JoJo enthusiast Nico Bellisario and talented singer Shihori. This track has gained a massive following, racking up an impressive 24 million views on YouTube, and is now considered the unofficial theme of the series.
Nico shared that creating Holy Steel has been a wild ride. “The reception to Holy Steel and my other JoJo-inspired tracks has been mind-blowing,” he expressed. “I feel so fortunate that my music resonates with so many fans.” Nico, who hails from Italy, has been a die-hard JoJo fan since diving into Part 3. His musical journey began at eight, when he picked up a traditional folk instrument, later transitioning to the guitar.
After a health scare pushed him to pursue his music seriously, he decided to take control of his passion. With Holy Steel, he wanted to capture the feeling of galloping horses, keeping that rhythm throughout the song. His inspiration came straight from his love for JoJo and the unique aesthetic of the series. “I literally picked up my guitar and started singing ‘steeeeeel, baaaaaal, ruuuuun’ as soon as I finished reading Steel Ball Run,” Nico recalled.
What’s even cooler is that since releasing Holy Steel, Nico has landed an official gig! He was approached to write a song for a partnership with the JoJo Stone Ocean anime, a dream come true for any fan. “At first, I thought it was a prank, but it turned out to be real!” he said, clearly still in disbelief.
As fans gear up for the weekly episode release beginning in fall 2026, Nico shares the collective anticipation. “It’s surreal to be so invested in an anime release. The biggest surprise? No opening theme in the first episode!”
In the end, Nico’s journey is a testament to the power of creativity and the profound impact that art can have. “JoJo has the ability to change lives,” he said. “And if a piece of work can do that, it’s genuinely a work of art.”
So, while we wait for the official theme song for Steel Ball Run, fans can continue to jam out to Holy Steel and appreciate the creative talents that make the JoJo universe even more vibrant!
