House of the Dragon Season 3 Trailer: Major Battles and Heartbreaking Losses Await

The latest trailer for House of the Dragon Season 3 has dropped, and it’s packed with jaw-dropping moments. We see Emma D’Arcy’s Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen making a bold move to reclaim King’s Landing from the Greens and lay her hands on the Iron Throne. However, this power play comes with a heavy emotional toll, as indicated by her tears in the trailer.

For those not in the know, George R.R. Martin’s history book, Fire & Blood, serves as the backdrop for the events of this series. The upcoming season will dive into the tumultuous years of 129 AC to 130 AC, a period filled with epic confrontations between the Blacks and the Greens during what fans call the Dance of the Dragons. And let’s not forget, this season might be just the beginning, with a fourth season expected to wrap things up around 131 AC.

Dragons are going to be the ultimate weapons in this battle for power, and we can expect casualties on both sides. Although we won’t reveal who meets their demise, it’s worth remembering which characters are important dragon riders. The trailer teases us with glimpses of at least two significant battles: The Battle of the Gullet and The Butcher’s Ball, both likely to leave a mark.

The Battle of the Gullet is particularly noteworthy as Lord Corlys Velaryon, famously known as the Sea Snake, leads his fleet in a blockade of Blackwater Bay. This confrontation will be brutal, resulting in the loss of two dragons and one prominent dragonrider. And it all kicks off with some clever political maneuvering by Aegon II’s advisor, Ser Otto Hightower.

Later in the season, fans can look forward to The Butcher’s Ball, which promises to be a pivotal moment, as a key character faces their downfall. The trailer also hints at the aftermath of a recent battle involving Rhaenyra’s allies, the Winter Wolves, along with scenes featuring Ser Criston Cole from the Greens and Queen Alicent, who appears to be in Rhaenyra’s custody.

We also catch a glimpse of James Norton as Lord Ormund Hightower, the head of House Hightower, rallying forces for the Greens. Plus, we see Ewan Mitchell’s Prince Aemond Targaryen at Harrenhal and Tom Glynn-Carney’s King Aegon II vowing revenge against Aemond. It seems there might be a dragon lurking in the Vale, potentially linked to Rhaena Targaryen’s previous discovery of a wild dragon, Sheepstealer.

There’s speculation that Season 3 might alter Rhaena’s role, possibly taking on the essence of the dragonseed character Nettles from Fire & Blood. As hinted previously, Rhaena has been on the trail of a dragon, and her interactions could lead to some unexpected twists.

Another intriguing shot in the trailer shows Queen Helaena Targaryen seemingly giving birth, stirring up curiosity, especially since her other child, Prince Maelor, has been left out of the show despite having an important storyline in the books. Fans are definitely going to have a lot to discuss!
