FF14 Patch 7.5: Inventory Space Woes Resolved with New Dye System

Inventory management has always been a bit of a nightmare in Final Fantasy 14, especially for those of us who tend to hoard every little item. Well, if you’re anything like me and can’t resist stuffing your retainers with items you’ll most likely never use, the new patch 7.5 is set to change the game for you!

This update has rolled out a fantastic new dye system that allows us to free up a ton of inventory space. Say goodbye to those cluttered slots filled with countless dye pots that you thought you needed “just in case.” With this new feature, I finally managed to offload my overflowing collection of multicolored dyes that were hogging space like there’s no tomorrow.

Here’s the scoop: You can now consolidate those never-ending dye stacks into neat categories by visiting the Calamity Salvager in any of the starting cities. This means instead of having 85 different dye pots taking up valuable slots, you could simplify your collection into just a handful of items. I mean, who wouldn’t want to lighten their load, right?

To make the swap, just talk to the Calamity Salvager and choose the ‘Dye Exchange’ option. From there, it’s as simple as trading in one dye to access a whole spectrum of colors. If you’ve been collecting like a true dye enthusiast, you could potentially turn 105 slots into just three. Talk about a space-saving miracle!

For those curious about where to find the Calamity Salvager, here are the quick locations:

  • Old Gridania (X:10.0, Y:8.4)
  • Limsa Lominsa Upper Decks (X:11.4, Y:14.4)
  • Ul’dah – Steps of Thal (X:12.6, Y:13.1)

Now, let’s dive into the new dye options you’ll be getting:

  • Standard Spectrum Dye: Crafted from any of the 85 common dyes.
  • Wide Spectrum #1 Dye: From nine dyes unlocked in special events like Ishgardian Restoration and Island Sanctuary.
  • Wide Spectrum #2 Dye: Exclusive to 11 dyes from the Dawntrail crafting and gathering content.

It’s worth noting that some classic dyes are no longer available for purchase, so don’t expect to find those coveted colors like Dragoon Blue or Gunmetal Black at the usual spots. Instead, the game has replaced 20 dye pots with just two consolidated items, which makes it easier to manage but does have its downsides for those who loved collecting rare colors.

And while the fancy colors like General-purpose Pure White can’t be consolidated, the joy of clearing out inventory space is hard to beat! Plus, with all the extra room, you can toss in some saved dungeon gear or maybe even hoard a little more junk—because who doesn’t love a good stash? Frankly, even though I should probably downsize my retainers, I know myself too well. Let’s be real; it won’t be long before I’m right back to maxing out my inventory again!
