Nagoshi Studio’s Future Uncertain as Website Goes Dark
Hey gamers! Remember back in April when the Nagoshi Studio’s YouTube channel mysteriously vanished? It caused quite a stir among Yakuza fans, especially since just before that, NetEase decided to pull its financial support for the studio. Everyone jumped to conclusions that Gang of Dragon, their upcoming title, was in serious trouble. Luckily, the channel popped back online in no time, bringing a wave of relief. But now, the plot thickens.
This time, it’s not just the YouTube channel that’s causing concern. Reports have surfaced that the Nagoshi Studio website has completely disappeared! Yeah, you heard that right. The Wayback Machine shows it was still active as recently as April 24, but now it’s nowhere to be found. If you try to visit the site, you’re greeted with an error message. Talk about a red flag!
Nagoshi Studio, founded by the legendary Toshihiro Nagoshi in 2022 after leaving Sega, was making some big moves with their project, Gang of Dragon. This game, showcasing the unique flair of the Yakuza series, features Ma Dong-Seok in a role that’s reminiscent of his character from The Outlaws. It was unveiled at the 2025 Game Awards, and fans were buzzing with excitement.
However, things took a downturn when NetEase announced they were cutting their funding for the studio. As part of a broader strategy to scale back on external game development, they claimed that Gang of Dragon needed an additional $44.4 million to see the light of day. With funding set to end this month, the future of the game seems pretty bleak.
Word is that Nagoshi is on the hunt for new investors, but as of the last update in March, it seems that no one had stepped up to the plate. While nothing official has been confirmed, and the Steam page for Gang of Dragon is still up, it hasn’t seen any updates since its initial reveal.
So, what does this all mean? While a complete shutdown isn’t inevitable, the current situation doesn’t look too promising. We’re all hoping for some good news regarding Nagoshi Studio and Gang of Dragon, but for now, we’ll be keeping our fingers crossed. Stay tuned as we reach out for more information!
