Dungeon Crawler Carl’s Creator Teases Future Projects with Fan-Favorite Character

This week, fans of the Dungeon Crawler Carl series have something to celebrate with the release of a brand new book titled “A Parade of Horribles.” Alongside this exciting addition, there’s also an audiobook version available, making it easier for everyone to dive into the latest adventures.

To promote the new release, author Matt Dinniman and narrator Jeff Hays teamed up to rank the character voices from the series in a fun video. You can catch the full experience on Audible’s YouTube channel, where Hays showcases his impressive vocal talents and discusses their ranking choices.

During their chat, Dinniman took a moment to express his fondness for Quasar, a character that many fans adore. For those who haven’t kept up, Quasar is the witty alien lawyer introduced in the fifth installment, “The Butcher’s Masquerade.” Dinniman humorously shared, “After I finish the Carl series, I’d love to venture into writing a legal drama featuring aliens.” He even gave Hays specific instructions for Quasar’s voice, suggesting a vibe similar to “Better Call Saul” but with a touch of New York flair, which Hays nailed perfectly.

This revelation hints at what might be next for Dinniman after he concludes the Dungeon Crawler Carl saga, although he hasn’t fully mapped it out yet. There’s also the anticipation surrounding the upcoming TV adaptation set to premiere on Peacock, which could influence how long Dinniman continues to expand this universe. He has mentioned plans to wrap up the series with a total of ten books, but if the show gains popularity, we might see more from him down the line.

When asked what his potential “alien legal drama” could look like, Dinniman indicated two paths: creating a brand-new character or perhaps spinning off Quasar into his own story, much like a “Better Call Saul” scenario. There’s also an upcoming graphic novel titled “Crocodile” expected to hit the shelves in March 2027, which suggests that Dinniman is keen to continue exploring this universe.

Although Dinniman was recently asked about any other planned spinoffs during an interview, he stated, “As of now, no. We’ll see how Crocodile performs.” What lies ahead for Dungeon Crawler Carl is still unclear, but for now, fans can enjoy “A Parade of Horribles,” available since May 12 on Kindle, Audible, and in hardcover. Additionally, there’s an exciting DCC tabletop RPG that has already gathered significant funding, adding even more to look forward to in this vibrant world.
