Subnautica 2: Dive Deep, Scan Hard! Unlocking the Bioscanner Upgrade

Hey, fellow deep-sea explorers! If you’re deep into your Subnautica 2 journey, you know how crucial your Scanner is. But what if we told you there’s an even better version? Enter the Bioscanner! This bad boy is an absolute game-changer, letting you scan marine life to unlock some seriously cool Biomods. Our advice? Get it ASAP! Trust us, you don’t want to be re-scanning all those creatures you’ve already catalogued, because unfortunately, it doesn’t work retroactively. So, the sooner you grab it, the better!

Before you set off on this exciting hunt, make sure you’ve made significant progress in the game. You’ll need to have explored past the Tadpole Pens and navigated that vast, open ocean stretch, ultimately arriving at the mysterious Alien Ruins area. Once you’re there, a pro tip: seriously consider kitting out your trusty Tadpole submersible with a Depth Module. Believe us, the deep sea pressure in these zones is no joke, and you don’t want your adventure cut short by a crushed sub!

Alright, gear up! To get your hands on the Bioscanner schematic, your destination is the infamous Cicada wreckage. You’ll typically be sent here as part of the quest to locate Iso’s blackbox. If you’re looking for exact coordinates, it’s roughly 130 degrees southeast of the Alien Ruins Research Outpost, about 500 meters out. Haven’t received the Iso’s blackbox objective yet? (You usually need to wrap up Ruby’s second blackbox mission first). No worries! Even if it feels like you’re heading into the great unknown abyss, just keep pushing forward. Soon enough, alien structures will start appearing, followed by the unmistakable sight of the Cicada wreck.

Once you’ve docked at the Cicada, look for an open hatch on the eastern side – that’s your entry point. Inside, it’s pretty straightforward:

  • First, whip out your trusty Repair Tool and fix that damaged door in front of you.
  • Head through the newly opened path, take a left, and you’ll find yourself in the room housing Iso’s blackbox. While you’re here, don’t miss out on grabbing the Photovoltaic Charger upgrade recipe for your Tadpole. Oh, and if you somehow missed the Bio Lab recipe back at the Welcome Center, there’s another chance to grab it here!
  • Next, spot the chute in the corner of this room? Dive down it!
  • Swim through the square hole in the wreckage wall ahead.
  • And finally, voilà! You’ll find the Bioscanner right next to a broken door at the very end of the wreckage. Scan it to unlock the schematic!

For your exit, you could repair that broken door to head out the bottom, but honestly, it’s usually less hassle to just retrace your steps back the way you came in. Also, keep an eye out for a Modification Station nearby – you’ll definitely need one, though there’s also one conveniently located at the Alien Ruins Research Station.

Scanning the schematic is just step one, bhai! Now, you need to craft this marvel. Since the Bioscanner is an enhancement for your existing Scanner, you’ll need to head back to your base and construct a Modification Station first. For that, gather up:

  • 2x Titanium
  • 2x Celestine
  • 2x Copper

Once your Modification Station is up and running, it’s time to assemble the Bioscanner upgrade itself. For this, you’ll require:

  • 1x Standard Scanner (the one you already have)
  • 2x Enameled Glass (remember, that’s regular Glass combined with Creature Enamel)
  • 3x Conduit Crystal

So, what’s the big deal with this Bioscanner once you have it? Simple! It’s your ticket to unlocking a treasure trove of Biomods. Head over to any Bio Lab, and with your new Bioscanner, you’ll see a whole new menu of active and passive Biomods. These powerful enhancements can be unlocked by scanning various marine creatures across the game world – yes, even the massive Collector Leviathan! It’s time to truly customize your aquatic survival experience. Happy scanning, and may your deep-sea adventures be legendary!
