Subnautica 2: Become a Metal Mogul! Your Guide to the Ultimate Ore Farm

Diving into the vast, mysterious oceans of Subnautica 2, you know resources are key to survival and progress. But what if we told you there’s a way to never run out of those super rare metals? That’s right, gamers! We’re talking about the Metal Farm, a total game-changer that lets you duplicate precious resources like Troilite. Trust us, once you get this bad boy running, your days of frantically searching for specific ores will be over!

Why is this Metal Farm such a big deal, you ask? Well, later in the game, when you’re busy fixing up the Alien Power Plant, you’ll need a ridiculous amount of Troilite. And let’s be honest, finding enough of it scattered across the map is a nightmare. That’s where your very own metal-producing facility comes in handy, turning a tedious grind into a smooth operation. Before you embark on this resource-rich journey, make sure you’ve explored enough to reach the Alien Ruins area via the Tadpole Pens, and don’t forget to equip your Tadpole with its crucial Depth Module.

Unlocking the Metal Farm Blueprint: The Deep Dive

To get your hands on the Metal Farm blueprint, you’ll need to scan three existing Metal Farms. Good news is, they’re all clustered together in one specific (and slightly terrifying) location. Prepare your Tadpole and your nerves, because you’re heading into a deep, glowing green pool area. This spot is roughly 870 meters northeast of the Alien Ruins Research Base, at a bearing of about 75 degrees. Be warned: it’s a whopping 450 meters deep, pushing your Tadpole to its absolute depth limit even with the module!

This deep-sea paradise is also a predator’s playground, patrolled by a massive leviathan, so make sure your Tadpole has a Repair Tool handy, and carry some medkits for yourself. Navigating this treacherous path can be tricky, but here’s your roadmap:

  • Start from the Alien Ruins Research Base and head due east.
  • Drop off the cliff and keep descending until you spot a distinctive purple tube. Follow it until you reach the Angel Comb.
  • From the Angel Comb, head northeast, following another purple tube down a ravine. This will lead you straight to the area with the glowing green pools.
  • You’ll see alien column-like devices scattered around the edges of these pools – those, my friends, are the Metal Farms!

Scan a few of these to unlock the blueprint. While you’re busy scanning, try to stay as low as possible to avoid attracting the attention of that lurking leviathan. And hey, since you’re already there, smash some of the materials in the pools to grab some Troilite and an Axum Bacterial Culture – you’ll need both to actually craft your own Metal Farm later!

Crafting Your Own Resource Powerhouse

Once you’ve got the blueprint, it’s time to build your very own Metal Farm! This amazing facility will cost you:

  • 1x Mangalloy Ingot
  • 1x Axum Bacterial Culture

To craft the Mangalloy Ingot, you’ll need one Troilite, one Atacamite, and one Titanium Ingot. The Metal Farms are a bit quirky; they clearly need power, but their blueprint doesn’t specify power consumption. What we do know is they require quite a bit of juice, so be ready to expand your power grid! Since you can build them almost anywhere, we recommend setting up your Metal Farm close to your existing power production to save yourself the hassle of crafting an extra power transmitter.

Using Your Metal Farm: Duplicate Like a Boss!

Once your Metal Farm is powered up and ready, using it is incredibly simple. Get ready to multiply your rare metals!

  1. Approach the front of the device and interact with it to “open storage.”
  2. Place the metal you want to duplicate inside. We highly recommend starting with Troilite – it’s a pain to collect normally, and as mentioned, you’ll need tons for the Alien Power Plant.
  3. A timer will appear on the front of the farm, counting down.
  4. Once the timer runs out, an ore node of the corresponding type will magically appear on top of the Metal Farm!
  5. Whip out your Sonic Resonator and smash that node. You’ll get a random amount of ore, usually between one and three pieces.

The best part? As soon as you smash that node, the Metal Farm immediately starts producing another one! If you can manage the power infrastructure, you can even build multiple Metal Farms to create an incredibly efficient resource generation system. Imagine never worrying about running out of crucial materials again – now that’s a true Subnautica 2 flex!
