Nicolas Cage Reflects on Hollywood Rejections: Nolan and Others on the List

Nicolas Cage recently shared some juicy details about his experiences with Hollywood heavyweights, revealing that Christopher Nolan is among the filmmakers who “don’t call me back” after he passed on a role. In an interview, Cage opened up about his not-so-smooth interactions with some of the biggest names in the industry, including director David O. Russell.

The actor, known for his roles in movies like National Treasure, admitted that he once turned down Russell’s offer for a “good movie” many years ago. Interestingly, despite that initial rejection, Cage is now set to star in Russell’s upcoming biopic about Madden, highlighting a rare second chance in an industry where such opportunities aren’t common.

Cage humorously pointed out that many filmmakers seem to take it personally when he declines their offers. “Most of them get their feelings hurt and don’t call you back. It’s happened a million times,” he lamented, including big names like Woody Allen and Paul Thomas Anderson in his list of filmmakers who’ve left him hanging.

When it comes to Nolan, Cage specifically mentioned turning down a role in the film Insomnia. He shared that his experience with Anderson was quite early on, noting a project that was set up to happen but ultimately fell through.

Despite the rejections, Cage gave a shout-out to Russell for reaching out to him again for the Madden film, commending it as a display of class. “David did call me, and it showed a lot of class that he would invite me again,” he said, expressing his respect for Russell’s talent and the enjoyable experience of working together.
