Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave: Is Nintendo Charging 80 Dollars For A Standard Game?

Big news for all you tactical RPG fans out there! The highly anticipated Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave finally has a launch date: mark your calendars for September 17, 2026. But hold on a second, because along with that exciting reveal from the recent June 2026 Nintendo Direct, a rather eyebrow-raising detail emerged – its price tag.

Get ready for this: the standard physical edition of Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave is set to cost a whopping $79.99 (approx. Rs 22,400) USD. Yes, you read that right. Eighty dollars for a standard game, not some fancy collector’s edition loaded with goodies. This is a significant jump from the $69.99 (approx. Rs 19,600) price point we’ve grown accustomed to for many big-title games.

Naturally, this revelation left many gamers scratching their heads. While the digital version in the US will be available for a slightly less painful $69.99 (approx. Rs 19,600), the physical version seems to be getting a premium. And it’s not just in the US; our Canadian neighbours will see it for CAD $109.99 (approx. Rs 30,800), and Aussies for AUD $119.95 (approx. Rs 33,590) for the physical copy. Even the UK digital price is £58.99.

So, what’s going on here? Nintendo actually hinted at this new pricing strategy earlier this year, back in March. They stated that they would start charging different amounts for digital and physical games. Their explanation? They’re not “increasing the cost of physical games” but rather setting a lower Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) for digital versions of their exclusive Switch 2 titles. Essentially, they’re saying digital is cheaper, not physical is more expensive. They even gave an example with “Yoshi and the Mysterious Book,” which was $59.99 (approx. Rs 16,800) digital and $69.99 (approx. Rs 19,600) physical.

It’s a bit of a head-scratcher, especially since retail partners are still free to set their own prices. This new approach has certainly created some confusion among the gaming community, with even industry analysts admitting they weren’t entirely sure how to interpret Nintendo’s initial announcement.

For those keeping score, Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave isn’t the first Nintendo Switch 2 game to hit the $80 (approx. Rs 22,400) mark. That dubious honour goes to Mario Kart World, which launched alongside the console itself last June. This means we’re seeing a trend here, and it makes you wonder what other upcoming Switch 2 titles might follow suit.

Speaking of other titles, the June 2026 Nintendo Direct also showcased some other massive games like The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake, The Duskbloods, and Xenoblade Genesis. However, their pricing details are still under wraps. Let’s hope they don’t follow Fire Emblem’s lead!

What do you guys think? Is this new pricing strategy justified, or are our wallets about to take a bigger hit than usual for our favourite Nintendo games? Let us know your thoughts!

Note: PKR figures are approximate, based on a rate of Rs 280.00 per USD. Exchange rates fluctuate — please check the latest dollar rate for exact pricing.
