George Lucas Voices a Character in Minions & Monsters – A Dream Come True for Fans!
Star Wars fans, hold onto your light sabers! The legendary George Lucas is stepping into the animated world as he lends his voice to a character in the upcoming flick, Minions & Monsters. This exciting news was confirmed by Chris Meledandri, the CEO of Illumination, during a chat with Collider.
Lucas has often been associated with epic sci-fi sagas, so it’s quite a surprise to see him transition into the whimsical realm of Minions. Meledandri revealed that the idea to cast Lucas came about when they were brainstorming characters for the story. He mentioned he simply suggested, “What if we could get George?” and the response was an enthusiastic “yes”!
While specific details about Lucas’s character remain under wraps, there’s speculation he could either portray a brand-new character or even an animated version of himself, especially since the plot hints at the Minions spending time in Hollywood.
Though Lucas has made a name for himself behind the camera, he has occasionally taken on roles in front of it. Fans might recall it’s been a while since he last appeared on screen. So, what drove him to accept this role? According to Meledandri, it’s simple—he’s a big fan of the Minions! “When I met him a couple of years ago, it was clear how much he loves Illumination films, especially Despicable Me and the Minions,” he shared.
Illumination first made waves with Despicable Me back in 2010, and since then, they’ve created a treasure trove of beloved animated films, including The Grinch and The Secret Life of Pets. Now, with three Minions movies under their belt and more on the way, it seems Lucas might just be the first of many exciting cameos.
In fact, Meledandri mentioned that Lucas is already chatting about potential roles for future Minions projects, demonstrating his eagerness to be part of this delightful universe. Minions & Monsters is set to premiere on July 1, 2026, and fans can’t wait to see what this collaboration has in store!
