Dolph Lundgren Shares His Disappointment Over Masters of the Universe’s Box Office Struggles
Dolph Lundgren, the iconic actor known for his role as He-Man, recently opened up about his feelings regarding the new Masters of the Universe movie and its lackluster performance at the box office. In a conversation with ComicBook, Lundgren admitted, “Yeah, I was a bit disappointed. I mean, everybody told me it’s going to do great.”
While he typically doesn’t let box office numbers affect his emotional connection to a film, he couldn’t help but ponder, “Oh, okay. Um, that was strange that didn’t do better.” He noted that despite extensive marketing and promotional efforts, the film didn’t resonate as expected. Lundgren, who participated in some of the press activities, expressed uncertainty about the film’s current standing. “I think it did fairly well overseas as well. I’m not sure what that means really,” he added.
The actor reflected on the apparent curse of live-action He-Man adaptations, pointing out that the 1987 film he starred in also struggled at the box office, raking in only $17 (approx. Rs 4,730) million against a $20 (approx. Rs 5,560) million budget. Fast forward to the new installment, which features Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man and Jared Leto as Skeletor, and the figures remain concerning; the movie has grossed approximately $102 (approx. Rs 28,360) million against a hefty $200 (approx. Rs 55,600) million budget.
Despite the disappointing numbers, Amazon remains optimistic about the film’s future. Fans can look forward to a post-credits scene that teases a potential sequel, adding a glimmer of hope for die-hard followers of the franchise. Lundgren also makes a fun cameo in this latest adaptation, which he admits might have brought a tear to his eye.
Masters of the Universe is currently playing in theaters, and it seems there’s still room for the franchise to grow and capture the hearts of fans once more.
