Rs 22,240) Standard Edition and the $100 (approx. Rs 27,800) Ultimate Edition (which locks some key features behind a paywall) could impact both the game and the gaming industry as a whole.
Joost Van Dreunen, a well-known industry analyst, believes that the new price tags won’t hinder GTA 6’s sales. In fact, the overall increase in hardware costs could actually benefit the game’s sales prospects. “Given that gaming hardware is becoming increasingly unaffordable, players are likely to invest in experiences they believe are worth it,” Van Dreunen shared in a recent chat. “Why spend $1,000 (approx. Rs 278,000) on a new console when you can grab one of the most popular franchises for a fraction of that?”
As it stands, hardware prices are on a significant upward trend. The recently released Steam Machine starts at a staggering $1,049 (approx. Rs 291,620), and we’ve seen price hikes for the Xbox Series X|S and PS5 consoles earlier this year. It appears that this trend isn’t going to reverse anytime soon. “Gaming is increasingly being seen as a luxury,” Van Dreunen notes, highlighting the industry’s evolving economics. “Historically, it’s been about a winner-takes-most scenario, and with GTA 6, the bar is being raised once again.” He suggests that publishers capable of navigating these price increases will thrive, while others may need to innovate with new channels, bundles, or pricing strategies to remain competitive.
