Blood Bowl Kicks Off a New Era: Slitherine Takes the Helm!

Alright, gamers of Pakistan, get ready for some exciting news that could breathe new life into one of our favourite fantasy sports titles! The publishing rights for the chaotic and brutal world of Blood Bowl have officially changed hands, moving to Slitherine, a publisher well-known for their strategy games like the Panzer Corps series and Warhammer 40,000 titles such as Battlesector and Gladius.

This is a pretty big deal, especially considering the recent turbulences surrounding the series. The previous publisher, Nacon, unfortunately ran into some financial trouble, filing for insolvency earlier this year. This led to the sad closure of Spiders, the studio behind Greedfall, and left many fans wondering about the fate of Blood Bowl 3 and other projects.

But fear not, the pitch is still open! This acquisition by Slitherine seems like a breath of fresh air for Blood Bowl. The original developers, Cyanide, who’ve been with the series for ages, are still very much in the game. In fact, their long-standing plan to update Blood Bowl 3 to align with the latest tabletop rules – essentially re-releasing it as ‘Warhammer Blood Bowl’ – which was previously delayed, now looks set to go ahead under the new publisher.

Both Slitherine and Cyanide are sounding positive about this new partnership. Marco Minoli, Slitherine’s Director of Publishing, expressed immense respect for Cyanide’s work and excitement to collaborate closely with them and the passionate Blood Bowl community. Cyanide’s CEO, Patrick Pligersdorffer, also shared his delight, highlighting Slitherine’s proven expertise in publishing high-quality strategy games, calling it a “perfect match” for the future of Blood Bowl videogames.

Let’s be honest, Blood Bowl 3 had a bit of a rough start. Despite the initial hype, it launched with a fair share of bugs, baffling microtransactions, and a live-service model that left many players frustrated. Even after several patches, navigating the game’s menus can still feel like a chore, which sadly drove many players back to the more polished experience of Blood Bowl 2. This new publishing arrangement could be the turning point we’ve all been hoping for, offering a chance for Blood Bowl 3 to truly shine and for the series to grow.

Fingers crossed, this new chapter with Slitherine will bring the stability and quality that the Blood Bowl series truly deserves, giving us the ultimate fantasy football experience we’ve always wanted!
