Townfall Making Shotguns Feel... Bad?
0
Heard something really interesting about Silent Hill: Townfall recently that's got me thinking. Apparently, there's a part in the game where getting a shotgun, usually a power trip in horror, actually makes you feel awful. You're fighting these 'widow' enemies, and it turns out they have photos of their deceased loved ones stapled to them, making your rampage feel incredibly monstrous. It really flips the usual horror game dynamic on its head, turning the player into the real antagonist through their own actions. I'm genuinely intrigued by how a game can make you question your moral compass just by equipping a weapon. What do you guys think about horror games making you feel this conflicted?

This is such a clever subversion of horror tropes. Making the shotgun a source of guilt instead of a powe power trip is brilliant design.

Yes! Making the power fantasy feel heavy is such a smart twist. It reminds me of Spec Ops: The Line.
