Stealth Gamers, Assemble! Thick as Thieves is Tweaking, But What About THAT Timer?
Hey there, PakGamers fam! We’ve got some updates on OtherSide Entertainment’s stealth-heist title, Thick as Thieves. This game, where you crawl through vents and sneak past guards solo or with a friend to grab loot, has been getting some attention from the developers. While they appreciate our “thieving prowess,” they’re also rolling out patches to make the experience even better. But is it *truly* better in the ways that matter most to us?
The first patch brought some much-needed quality-of-life improvements. Players were happy to see an FOV (Field of View) slider, an option to disable motion blur, and a few other handy settings tweaks. These are always welcome additions, especially in a game where precision and clear vision are key to a successful heist.
Now, a second update is on its way, expected sometime in the middle of next week. This patch promises even more good stuff, including the ability to rebind your keys. For any seasoned stealth gamer, especially those who grew up with classics like Thief: The Dark Project, custom keybindings are practically essential. It’s the first thing many of us do to get comfortable with a game’s controls. Another positive change is making the main mission timer visible, which previously only popped up when it was almost over. Now, you’ll be able to check it whenever you open your map with the Tab key. Good stuff, right?
However, despite these welcome changes, there’s a big question mark hanging over one specific mechanic that’s causing a lot of grief in the community: the infamous 8-minute countdown timer. Let us explain if you haven’t encountered it yet.
In Thick as Thieves, each mission has an overall time limit, typically 30 or 45 minutes, which isn’t the main issue. The real headache begins as soon as you tick off *any* objective on your list. This could be something minor, like grabbing just one item out of a three-item set, or even accidentally picking up too much secondary loot. The moment this happens, an eight-minute countdown starts.
If that 8-minute timer runs out before you manage to find the randomly spawned exit door – which only appears when the countdown begins, mind you – you fail the entire mission. And if you hadn’t completed all the other steps of your objectives before this sudden scramble, you’ll have to start them all over again on your next attempt. Imagine carefully planning your infiltration, executing everything perfectly, only to be screwed over by a poorly placed, random exit door in the last few minutes. It’s incredibly frustrating, and with no mid-mission saving (a remnant of the game’s origins as a multiplayer-focused title), all that hard work can vanish in an instant.
While making the general mission timer visible is a step in the right direction, many players feel it doesn’t tackle the core problem of the unforgiving 8-minute countdown. There’s a strong hope that developers will consider making this specific timer adjustable or even optional, similar to how they added an FOV slider. The concern is that OtherSide Entertainment might view this intense, sudden sprint to the exit as an “essential” part of the game’s design, rather than something that could be refined to improve player experience.
What do you guys think? Are these updates enough to bring you back to Thick as Thieves, or is that pesky 8-minute timer still a deal-breaker for your stealthy adventures?
