Aspyr's Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection: A Disappointing Turn of Events

In a galaxy not so far away, the recent release of the Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection has left many fans feeling the disturbance in the Force. Following the well-received Star Wars Dark Forces Remaster, anticipation was high for this collection. However, what players received was far from what they had hoped for, marked by controversy and disappointment.

One of the earliest complaints stemmed from the discovery that a mod had been incorporated into the game without the modder's permission. Aspyr, the studio responsible for the remaster, had assured fans that the release version would not utilize anyone else's "code or content" without proper authorization. Yet, it was quickly revealed that this was not the case. The launch version of the game, available on both PC and PlayStation platforms, included a mod that reintroduced Asajj Ventress as a playable character.

Ventress, originally exclusive to the Xbox version of Battlefront 2 in 2005, was brought into the PC version through the efforts of modder iamashaymin, who reskinned Aayla Secura to incorporate Ventress into the game. However, despite Aspyr's claims, the release version utilized iamashaymin's mod, evident from Ventress's utilization of Secura's animations and lightsabers, rather than an up-to-date version of the mod.

When contacted by IGN, iamashaymin expressed disappointment, labeling the release as "a total mess." The modder criticized the rushed development evident in the need for immediate patches following the release of two-decade-old games. Additionally, iamashaymin highlighted various issues within the game, including texture discrepancies and incorrect usage of textures from previous installments.

The Battlefront modding community, once eager to embrace the re-release, now finds itself disillusioned. Hopes for improvements that could enhance their modded content have been dashed by the disappointing state of the remaster. Furthermore, long-standing issues within the game remain unaddressed, further exacerbating the community's frustration.

Describing the remaster as "a very broken game" that fails to rectify past issues, iamashaymin lamented the disappointing release as "a terrible gut punch" to both modders and players alike.

Meanwhile, amidst the chaos surrounding the Battlefront Classic Collection, the fate of the remake of Knights of the Old Republic remains uncertain. With Aspyr's removal from the project and rumors of further delays, fans are left to wonder what the future holds for this highly anticipated title. Perhaps, in light of recent events, a more cautious approach to development might be warranted, ensuring that quality and integrity remain at the forefront of future releases in the Star Wars gaming universe.
