Marvel’s Blade Reboot Hits a Snag, Feige Opens Up About the Delay

Kevin Feige, the mastermind behind Marvel, recently expressed his frustration over the stalled reboot of the Blade franchise featuring Mahershala Ali. In a candid chat with Josh Horowitz, Feige shared his mixed feelings, saying he feels like a “gigantic loser and failure” for not making this much-anticipated project a reality.

Let’s rewind a bit: the new Blade movie, which promises to bring back the vampire-hunting hero, was first announced back in 2015. It took years before fans got any real updates, and excitement surged when it was revealed at San Diego Comic-Con in 2021 that Academy Award winner Mahershala Ali would take on the iconic role. Initially, Bassam Tariq, known for “Ghosts of Sugar Land,” was brought on as director, but he stepped away just a month before filming was supposed to kick off in 2022.

Later, French director Yann Demange took the reins, but production faced another setback due to the WGA strike, pushing the expected release from 2024 to 2025. The film’s original script was set in the 1920s, but that version was scrapped—though some elements might have found their way into the Oscar-winning film “Sinners.” Despite these hurdles, the movie was given a promising R rating earlier this year, but it was ultimately removed from Marvel’s release calendar, leaving fans in limbo.

While fans are still holding out hope for a Blade revival, it’s clear that the road ahead is uncertain. Wesley Snipes, who originally portrayed Blade in the beloved 1998 film, made a triumphant return in “Deadpool” and “Wolverine,” reminding us all of his legendary status in Marvel history—he even holds the Guinness World Record for the longest career as a live-action Marvel character, with an impressive 25 years and 340 days!
