Acer Warns PC Prices Could Rise Up to 20% Before Getting Cheaper in 2027

If you’re planning to buy a new PC, Acer has some bad news: prices could get even higher before they finally start coming back down.

Acer Chairman and CEO Jason Chen expects PC prices to increase by roughly 5% to 20% during the fourth quarter of 2026, with the size of the increase depending on the configuration. PCs equipped with larger amounts of RAM and SSD storage could be hit particularly hard because memory and storage costs remain elevated.

Interestingly, the problem isn’t simply that manufacturers can’t get enough components. Chen says supplies of mainstream DDR4 and DDR5 memory have improved considerably, while CPU availability has also largely normalized. However, the prices manufacturers are paying for memory and SSDs remain high, and those costs take time to work their way through the supply chain and into the final price consumers pay.

That means the situation may not improve immediately even if component prices begin falling.

According to Acer’s outlook, average PC selling prices could continue climbing until around the middle of 2027. After that, consumers may finally start seeing some relief, with PC prices potentially beginning to decline during the second half of the year.

Acer expects additional semiconductor production capacity to help improve supply and eventually put downward pressure on component costs. However, lower component prices don’t instantly translate into cheaper computers because manufacturers and retailers still have inventory purchased at earlier, higher prices.

The wider industry is facing similar pressure. IDC has warned that persistent memory constraints and higher costs are already affecting the global PC market, forecasting an 11.3% decline in PC shipments during 2026 and particularly difficult conditions toward the end of the year.

So while there appears to be some light at the end of the tunnel, Acer’s forecast suggests PC buyers could be dealing with elevated prices for quite a while longer.
