Nvidia Quietly Pulls the RTX 5080 From Its Store as Prices Hit $2,199
Nvidia has quietly removed the GeForce RTX 5080 from its own online store, following the RTX 5090, which disappeared from the store earlier. At the same time, prices for the card at other retailers have shot up.
The RTX 5080 launched at $999. According to the post on X, prices have now reached $2,199.99 in the US, more than double the launch price.
Why is this happening?
Nvidia hasn’t explained the change. Rumours suggest the company may be moving production towards its AI and professional graphics cards, which sell for far more than gaming cards. When fewer gaming cards are made, the ones that are left get more expensive.
There are also rumours of a new RTX 5080 with 24GB of VRAM, up from the current card’s 16GB. Nothing has been announced, so treat that as a rumour for now.
This follows our recent story on RTX 5090s reportedly being stripped for AI servers in China. Demand for AI hardware is clearly squeezing the gaming market.
What it means for PC gamers in Pakistan
- Expect local prices to follow: high-end GPUs in Pakistan are imported, so a jump in US prices usually reaches local shops soon after.
- Don’t panic-buy: if your current card still runs your games well, waiting a few months for prices to settle or for a new model to be announced may save you a lot.
- Look at other options: previous-generation cards or other brands can offer much better value while prices are this high.
- Buying used? Test the card in person and check the seller on our Trade Caution List first.
