Kingdom Come Developer Warhorse Studios Reportedly Hit by Ransomware Attack
Warhorse Studios, the Czech developer behind Kingdom Come: Deliverance, has reportedly had to stop game development after a serious cyberattack.
According to reports shared on X, the incident may involve ransomware that has affected the studio’s entire computer network. Staff reportedly can’t work because their computers have been disconnected as a security precaution.
Hackers reportedly demanding money
More worryingly, the attackers are reportedly trying to blackmail the studio and are demanding a payment. Warhorse has not given full details publicly, so the scale of the damage and whether any data was taken is still unclear.
Which games could be affected
The attack could hit two big projects at the studio:
- The next Kingdom Come game, following the success of Kingdom Come: Deliverance II.
- An open-world Lord of the Rings RPG that the studio is reported to be working on.
It’s too early to say whether either game will be delayed. That will depend on how quickly the studio can restore its systems safely and whether any work was lost.
Not the first studio to be hit
Game studios have become a regular target for ransomware gangs, because unreleased games, source code and player data are valuable and studios are under pressure to keep projects on schedule. Several big developers have been hit in recent years.
We’ll update this story if Warhorse shares more. Are you waiting for the next Kingdom Come? Tell us in the forums.
