Lunar Love: Pragmata’s David Menkin Talks Space and Secrets

In the vibrant world of video games, there’s no shortage of adventures that take us to the moon or at least hint at its significance. David Menkin, the talented actor voicing Hugh in the much-anticipated game Pragmata, has always had a soft spot for our celestial neighbor. In a recent chat, he revealed just how much he adores the moon, but also the tricky situation he found himself in regarding the upcoming Artemis 2 mission.

While working on Capcom’s latest shooter, Menkin had to keep his enthusiasm about the close timing of Artemis 2’s launch and Pragmata’s release under wraps. He wasn’t specifically banned from discussing the moon, but he wanted to avoid any slip-ups that could cost him. As someone who admits to being a “bad liar,” he decided to lay low to prevent any accidental leaks of confidential information. “I didn’t want anyone from Capcom to be like, ‘Excuse me, is that a picture of the moon or is that a picture of our moon?’” he quipped.

Menkin’s resume is impressive when it comes to space-themed roles; he has portrayed iconic characters like Luke Skywalker in Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, as well as Neil Armstrong in various projects, showcasing his love for all things lunar. “I’ve done all the famous quotes, Neil’s famous quotes … I know so much about the f**king moon,” he humorously remarked, adding that his career seems to orbit around the moon.

He also touched on the dynamics between his character Hugh and Diana, played by Grace Saif. Their recordings were done separately, which is quite typical in the industry, allowing each actor to bring their own performance to the table. Menkin explained that while Saif was ahead in recording, he strategically paced himself so he could always draw inspiration from her amazing work. “It’s kind of like playing opposite a CGI character in a live action film,” he noted, praising the entire team for their collaboration.

With his unique experiences in the realm of space exploration through gaming, David Menkin certainly adds a stellar touch to Pragmata, proving once again that the cosmos has a strong influence on our favorite gaming stories.
