Seth MacFarlane Hints at Future of Ted: Will We Get Season 3 or Another Movie?
Seth MacFarlane recently shared some exciting insights about the future of the beloved “Ted” franchise. During a panel discussion, the creator of “Family Guy” hinted that a third season of “Ted” or even a new movie could happen, but there’s a catch: it all depends on Peacock’s “big Scrooge McDuck money.”
While chatting at a Deadline Contenders TV event, MacFarlane addressed the fans’ burning question—why hasn’t “Ted” Season 3 been officially announced yet? It’s clearly something he’s been pondering. Although no formal plans are in motion at the moment, he mentioned that the team behind the prequel series is ready and willing to continue the adventure with more “Ted” content.
“It’s all on the table,” MacFarlane stated, pointing out that the ball is really in Peacock’s court. He noted that the decision really hinges on the network’s financial backing. “I think we’d all be interested, whether it’s a third season or a direct-to-Peacock film featuring this cast,” he added.
The “Ted” saga began in 2012 with a live-action film starring Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis, which was followed by a sequel in 2015. The series made its transition to the small screen with Peacock’s “Ted” series, which launched in 2024, showcasing a younger version of Wahlberg’s character, played by Max Burkholder. The show has performed remarkably well, with its first season breaking records and the second season garnering over 1.2 billion minutes viewed shortly after its March 2026 debut.
Despite the show’s success and popularity, MacFarlane clarified that as of now, there are “no plans” for Season 3. He attributed the halt to the high production costs, indicating that Universal and Peacock might not be too keen on moving forward with a continuation. “We might have painted ourselves into a corner with the Season 2 finale,” he said, suggesting that while there’s always a way to keep the story going, it might require some creative storytelling to pull it off.
While fans eagerly await any further developments on “Ted” Season 3 or a new movie, MacFarlane is simultaneously working on an animated spinoff that features the original cast, including Wahlberg and Seyfried. He expressed excitement about this new project, mentioning how the new team has done a phenomenal job in bringing fresh life to the series. “It’s joyful to see it take shape under different stewardship,” he remarked, highlighting how fun the new series is turning out to be.
