Get Ready to Wobble! LEGO’s Slinky Dog Bookends Bring Toy Story Magic Home
Who here grew up with Toy Story? If you’re anything like us at PakGamersHub, those first two movies were a huge part of our childhood, full of laughter, tears, and unforgettable characters. Even as new films came out, the magic of Woody, Buzz, and the gang never really faded. And one character that’s always been a standout, a true pal to Woody through thick and thin, is the lovable, stretchy Slinky Dog!
Well, LEGO has done it again! They’ve launched an incredible new set: the LEGO Toy Story Slinky Dog Bookends, and we recently got our hands on it for a proper build and review. This isn’t just any LEGO set; it’s a delightful trip down memory lane, packed with clever details that will make any Toy Story fan grin from ear to ear.
A Build That’s More Than Just Bricks
This fantastic set comes with a whopping 1,311 pieces, and let us tell you, the building experience is an adventure in itself. It took us about four hours spread over two evenings to put it all together. What better way to set the mood than by throwing on Toy Story 1 and 2 in the background? Talk about peak nostalgia!
The build kicks off with the smaller blue book, which sits right in the middle of the finished bookend display. You might think it’s just a simple brick-stacking job to form a book, but oh, how wrong we were! While the exterior is classic LEGO book, the inside holds a seamless, hidden drawer-like compartment. Pull it out, and who do you find tucked away? A super adorable Slinky Dog minifigure! The rail system for this secret hideaway is brilliantly designed, adding a fantastic interactive element.
Slinky Dog Himself: Wobbly Perfection!
Next up, it was time to assemble Slinky Dog’s rear end. LEGO’s ability to create smooth, rounded shapes with angular bricks always impresses, and Slinky’s body is no exception. There are some really interesting building techniques here, like attaching bricks upside down and using empty spaces strategically. But the absolute highlight? The curled, springy body that connects Slinky’s front and back halves. When fully assembled, he actually wobbles just like a real Slinky! It’s such a clever and true-to-character detail that makes the whole build feel alive.
Building Slinky’s front half was just as fun, especially putting together his head and face. Those intricate techniques for a round head, the massive fabric floppy ears, and those cute little sausage eyebrows are just perfect. His green collar even attaches loosely so it can spin, adding another layer of charm. And for all you dog lovers out there, get ready for your heart to melt – Slinky’s paws have amazingly detailed ‘toe beans’!
The Purple Book: A Treasure Trove of Easter Eggs!
Finally, we moved on to the larger, purple book. Just like its blue counterpart, it’s more than meets the eye. This one features an even cooler interactive surprise: turn a crank, and a “wall” inside the book slides open to reveal none other than the Woody minifigure! But wait, there’s more! This compartment is also home to a series of three-stud-tall references to other iconic Toy Story characters, cleverly using their signature color schemes. We spotted Buzz Lightyear, Bo Peep, Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head, the three Aliens, and even a tiny Pizza Planet box! It’s a true delight for any fan to discover.
Practicality Meets Play
Functionally, this set makes for a fantastic pair of bookends. It’s quite substantial, standing over 8 inches tall and stretching 17 inches long, so make sure you have some shelf space cleared. We were initially a bit worried the sleek LEGO bricks might slide against real books, but LEGO thought of everything! Each book has four rubber stoppers, cleverly made from LEGO tire pieces, on its underside, providing plenty of grip to keep your books securely in place.
If you prefer not to use it as bookends, the set is modular enough to display Slinky Dog separately as a standalone piece in your LEGO collection. You can even detach his two halves, although reconnecting them can be a tad fiddly without the right leverage. One minor point is that Slinky Dog’s feet don’t have those handy rubber stoppers, so he can be a little fussy to stand perfectly straight on his own. But honestly, these are small quibbles in an otherwise brilliant set.
Retailing for $149.99, the LEGO Toy Story Slinky Dog Bookends set is available now. It’s an absolute must-have for Toy Story fans, LEGO enthusiasts, or anyone looking to add a touch of nostalgic magic and functionality to their display shelf. It’s more than just a build; it’s an experience!
