Capcom’s Future: Sequels and Remakes on the Horizon for Fan-Favorite Franchises

Capcom has been on quite a roll lately! The gaming giant recently shared its financial results for the fiscal year ending March 2026, showcasing an impressive streak of 11 consecutive years of profit growth. Their success can largely be attributed to the phenomenal sales of titles like Resident Evil Requiem, which has taken the gaming world by storm.

In addition to celebrating last year’s achievements, Capcom also laid out its ambitious plans for the future. The company aims not only to bolster its flagship franchises—think Resident Evil, Monster Hunter, and Street Fighter—but also to give some love to other series, so they can achieve similar heights. They’ve even coined a fancy term for it: a “flywheel-driven business model for continuous IP value expansion.” In simpler terms, they want to create and sell great games to expand their fanbase, which will, in turn, help them produce even more games and related content like anime and merch.

While this approach isn’t revolutionary, it clearly works, as evidenced by their sales figures—nearly 400 million units sold across their top three brands alone. Now, Capcom wants to extend that success to some of its other beloved titles. According to their report, they’re looking at several franchises for potential sequels, remakes, and ports. Here’s a sneak peek at the series they’re eyeing:

  • Mega Man
  • Devil May Cry
  • Dead Rising
  • Onimusha
  • Ace Attorney
  • Dragon’s Dogma
  • Okami

Some of these choices are pretty expected, especially since Capcom has already teased projects like Onimusha: Way of the Sword, which is slated for release later this year, and the first new Mega Man title since 2018 revealed at the last Game Awards. Plus, fans can look forward to an Okami sequel in 2024!

For those who have been patiently waiting for updates on Ace Attorney, this news could be a double-edged sword—hopefully, it leads to something exciting rather than another letdown. And as a fan of Dragon’s Dogma, I couldn’t be happier to see it making the list. It’s reassuring to know Capcom hasn’t forgotten about it!

However, the report also touched upon Capcom’s plans to incorporate generative AI into their development processes, which they believe will help streamline routine tasks and allow for more focus on creativity. Thankfully, they’re not looking to replace their talented developers; instead, they plan to expand their workforce by adding over 100 new team members each year.

With all these developments, it’s clear that Capcom is gearing up for an exciting future filled with potential hits for gamers. Let’s keep our fingers crossed for some epic announcements in the coming months!
