Paramount Games Sets Sights on Exciting New Titles Inspired by Popular Shows

Paramount Games is buzzing with excitement as they gear up to develop video games based on some of Taylor Sheridan’s hit TV shows, including the much-loved Yellowstone and Tulsa King. Just last week, they officially announced the launch of their new gaming division, which will oversee the creation of games tied to Paramount’s biggest franchises. The first game on their roster? Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg!

Shawn Kittelsen, who heads creative and production at Paramount Games Studio, shared in an interview that titles like Yellowstone and its spin-offs are top priorities for their upcoming projects. “All of the Yellowstone and Yellowstone-adjacent titles, like Landman and Tulsa King, are definitely on our radar,” Kittelsen stated. While there’s no active development just yet, it’s clear that the studio is keen to explore these franchises in the gaming world.

Now, you might wonder what a game based on Yellowstone would even look like. Imagine a Telltale-style, choose-your-own-adventure game where your decisions influence the story. Alternatively, a GTA or Mafia-inspired take on the rugged themes of Yellowstone or Tulsa King could be pretty captivating. It’s worth noting that Paramount’s iconic film franchise, The Godfather, took a stab at this concept back in the mid-2000s with a GTA-like game that had its moments, though its sequel missed the mark.

As the landscape for open-world crime games has evolved significantly, it’ll be interesting to see how Paramount approaches these new projects. Shows like Yellowstone and Tulsa King target a more mature audience, raising questions about whether traditional games would resonate with these viewers. A mobile game might be a safer route, but that doesn’t seem to align with Paramount Games’ vision.

Kittelsen emphasized that Paramount is treading carefully with its licensed games, aiming to avoid the pitfalls of releasing random titles that could tarnish their brands. “If we just start throwing out games to check boxes and make quick cash, people will catch on, and we won’t achieve the success we envision. We believe in building our games meticulously, partnering with the right developers to create experiences that resonate with our audience,” he explained.

Furthermore, Paramount is being selective about who they collaborate with to bring their brands to life in gaming. “We’re committed to a player-first philosophy, so we’re very choosy about our partners. We want to ensure that everything we produce isn’t just a hit-or-miss,” Kittelsen added, stressing that they aim for quality over quantity.

It’s also exciting to note that Taylor Sheridan is dipping his toes into the gaming world by working on a Call of Duty movie for Paramount, set to hit theaters in the summer of 2028. With all these developments, the future looks bright for gamers eager to experience stories from their favorite shows in new and exciting ways!
