Valor Mortis Delays Launch to Dodge September’s Gaming Frenzy
The action-packed RPG, Valor Mortis, has decided to hold back its release a bit to steer clear of the packed gaming schedule this September. With this month shaping up to be one of the busiest ever for new video game launches, it was only a matter of time before some developers chose to rethink their strategies. The upcoming arrival of GTA 6 has already sent shockwaves through the industry, making many game studios wary about launching anything too close to its release. While a few titles, like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, are brave enough to venture out in October, most seem keen on avoiding the chaos that September is expected to bring.
Due to this overwhelming influx of games, Valor Mortis has opted to shift its release date from September 24th to October 13th. The developers at One More Level stated, “We want to give Valor Mortis (and your wallet) some room to breathe,” highlighting their understanding of the gaming landscape.
Initially, the team felt confident about their September launch. However, with titles like Control Resonant and Silent Hill: Townfall choosing the same date, they quickly recognized that they needed to make a change to avoid a crowded battlefield. To add to their concerns, Onimusha: Way of the Sword is set to launch the very next day, further complicating matters.
Blake Rochkind, head of publishing at Lyrical Games, admitted, “As soon as Control announced September 24th, we knew we were moving the date.” He also noted that Control looks like it could be a strong contender for Game of the Year, making it a wise decision to step aside.
Rochkind reached out to the development team to brainstorm a new launch date, carefully waiting until after the Nintendo Direct to ensure they wouldn’t land on another big release day. Valor Mortis, a first-person soulslike game from the creators of Ghostrunner, lets players rise from the dead as a former soldier from Napoleon’s army, battling against hordes of undead and menacing creatures.
