Deltarune Chapter 5 Soars with 300,000 Players; Chapter 6 Set for 2027 Release
Big news in the gaming world! Deltarune’s long-awaited fifth chapter just dropped on Steam and has taken the platform by storm, hitting nearly 300,000 concurrent players. That’s more than double its previous record, placing it among the top 10 best-selling titles on Steam right now. Clearly, the hype is alive and kicking, even after all this time!
For fans eagerly following the game, there’s even more to look forward to. A recent update on the Deltarune Steam page reassures players that the storyline is far from over. “We’re planning to add more chapters for free over time,” it states. The next one is tentatively scheduled for a 2027 release. In the meantime, updates on development will be shared periodically, so keep your eyes peeled!
Deltarune has had a bit of a convoluted journey since its inception. The first chapter launched for free back in 2018, followed by the second chapter in 2021, which was also free. Developer Toby Fox, who gained fame with Undertale, had initially indicated that future chapters would come at a cost. The plan was to bundle chapters 3, 4, and 5 into a paid release, but that changed in 2025 when the game officially released chapters 3 and 4, while work continued on chapter 5. For those who purchased chapters 3 and 4, all future chapters will be free!
And here’s a little teaser: Chapter 6 won’t be the last we see of Deltarune. Fox mentioned in a recent newsletter that the progress on chapter 6 is so smooth that some team members might even start working on Chapter 7 by the end of this year. Exciting times ahead for fans of this indie classic!
