August: A Chill Month Before the Gaming Frenzy Hits

As we step into August, gamers might notice that it’s a rather calm month for new PC game launches. But hey, this tranquility is the perfect opportunity to dive back into some of this year’s earlier releases or maybe catch up on games you’ve missed. Trust me; the months ahead are jam-packed with exciting content!

If you haven’t checked your calendar lately, you might want to! The upcoming months are about to unleash a wave of new titles, especially after all the announcements from the Summer Game Fest, which set the stage for a busy gaming fall. Personally, I’m keeping an eye on three major updates from survival crafting games: Valheim, Enshrouded, and RuneScape: Dragonwilds. I plan to enjoy Fields of Mistria’s 1.0 launch this month before I dive into the madness!

If farming sims aren’t your thing, don’t worry; August still has a few exciting releases that might pique your interest. The month kicks off with Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, and it wraps up with the latest Metal Gear Solid collection dropping alongside Star Wars Zero Company on the same day. Plus, mark your calendars for Gamescom at the end of the month, when we’ll have yet another chance to reflect on how quickly time flies!

Here are some highlights for August:

  • August 5: Fields of Mistria 1.0 – After enjoying the early access phase, I’m super excited for this farm sim’s full launch. The charming cast and the chance to romance the fiery Juniper have me all in!
  • August 6: ReStory: Chill Electronics Repair – This game caught my eye a while back. You’ll take on the role of an electronics whiz, fixing everything from old phones to consoles in a nostalgic mid-2000s Tokyo setting.
  • August 6: Sovereign Tower – This strategic RPG looks like a treat, featuring unique characters and the promise of “forbidden romances” with quirky knights. Yes, please!
  • August 27: Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection 2 – It’s finally happening! MGS4 is breaking free from the PS3, alongside other classics like Peace Walker.
  • August 27: Star Wars Zero Company – Despite my fatigue with the franchise, this game sounds intriguing, described as a blend of tactics from Mass Effect and XCOM.

And let’s not forget about some key events this month! Quakecon is hitting its 30th anniversary, starting August 6, followed by the highly anticipated Gamescom, which kicks off on August 26. Additionally, expect themed Steam sales throughout the month, including a Cyberpunk fest and a PvE Survival Crafting fest.

Now, for those eagerly awaiting new updates, August also brings us exciting DLCs and game updates like Mafia: The Old Country’s new missions and the Hell Rising DLC for Nioh 3.

So, while August might be a bit quieter, there’s still plenty to keep you entertained. Get ready to dive into some fun before the gaming storm hits in September!
