Baldur’s Gate 3: A Top Contender on Steam Deck for Over Two Years!
Can you believe it’s been almost three years since Baldur’s Gate 3 dropped? Well, it’s true! For the past 33 months, this epic RPG has consistently been a fan favorite on the Steam Deck. In fact, it has only slipped out of the top five most-played games on the platform in just four of those months. Talk about staying power! Even during those rare dips, it has never fallen out of the top ten.
Valve keeps track of the most-played games on Steam Deck, allowing players to sort the rankings by weekly, monthly, and yearly stats. Recently, while going through some stats from April 2026, I couldn’t help but dive into the past data, with a little help from some dedicated YouTube channels.
One thing that really blew my mind was how Baldur’s Gate 3 has held its ground. Did you know it claimed the number one spot for six months straight right after it launched? That record was only beaten by Balatro, which held on for seven months. And here’s a fun fact: Stardew Valley managed to snag the top spot for four nonconsecutive months as well!
After two years, Baldur’s Gate 3 only dipped out of the top five for the first time last August, and the lowest it dropped was to number eight last October. But it didn’t take long for a comeback—this title is back in the top five for 2023 so far!
It’s fascinating to see this happen, especially since the Steam Deck isn’t necessarily the best way to play Baldur’s Gate 3. It doesn’t even make it to the top of our list for best games on the Steam Deck! The handheld struggles a bit with the game, draining battery life and pushing performance limits. I remember running the game at about 20-30fps back when it first launched, but I was willing to deal with it since I was on a work trip.
Despite the performance issues, the game’s turn-based mechanics make it a bit easier to manage. You don’t need lightning-fast reflexes like in some action games. The fact that so many players choose to take this game on the go speaks volumes about its popularity, even after nearly three years!
So there you have it—the ongoing journey of Baldur’s Gate 3 on Steam Deck, showcasing just how much love this game has garnered from the gaming community. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to follow its incredible run!
