Bungie Sets the Stage for Marathon’s Expanding Storyline Over the Coming Years
Bungie isn’t putting the brakes on Marathon anytime soon! The game developer has officially announced that they have plans to develop the game’s story over the next several years. Creative director Julia Nardin recently spilled the beans about their vision for this exciting new extraction shooter during a chat with some gaming enthusiasts.
Even though Marathon has only been around for a couple of months, Nardin mentioned that the team has a general idea of where they want to take the narrative. “We know what direction we want the story to go over the next few years,” she said. However, she was careful to note that nothing is set in stone yet. It’s super important for Bungie to allow players to influence the storyline as they dive deeper into the game.
Players have already been navigating the treacherous world of Tau Ceti IV since Marathon launched on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S on March 5. Bungie aims to build this universe alongside its community, much like they did with Destiny. But this time, they want to ensure that new players won’t feel lost when they join the action, even if the storyline has been developing for a while.
<p"Every season is designed to be a fresh entry point for players, allowing them to uncover the mysteries of Tau Ceti while also engaging with its current happenings," Nardin explained. So, whether you're a veteran or a newcomer, there’s always something new to discover.
Recent updates already showcase how the developers are taking player feedback to heart, increasing the amount of armor and healing items available for Runners and enhancing participation in the Cryo Archive. With Season 2 expected to drop around June, it looks like Bungie is ready to keep the updates rolling in. Fans can rest easy knowing that the project is backed by a hefty budget of around $200 million, so it’s not going anywhere soon!
When Marathon launched, we rated it a solid 9/10, highlighting its brutal yet rewarding gameplay. If you’re looking for a challenging extraction shooter, Marathon might just be the game for you!
