Counter-Strike 2 Dominates, But CS:GO Hits New Player Milestones

When it comes to the hottest games on Steam, Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) is definitely stealing the spotlight. With over a million players online at any given time, it’s clear that this title is a force to be reckoned with. However, let’s not overlook its predecessor, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO), which has recently made an impressive comeback in terms of player count.

According to data from SteamDB, just a few days ago, CS:GO reached a peak of more than 68,000 concurrent players, marking its highest number since its re-release. While this figure may not seem monumental compared to the glory days of the original Counter-Strike or the current buzz around CS2, it’s still a notable achievement for a game that many might struggle to discover on Steam’s main page.

In fact, CS:GO is currently ranking as the 28th most played game on Steam, surpassing popular titles like Baldur’s Gate 3, Rainbow Six Siege, and Battlefield 6. This resurgence is quite remarkable, especially considering CS:GO is now 14 years old. It seems that the game is gaining traction beyond the initial buzz it generated when it became standalone again earlier this year.

This trend supports what some gaming analysts have pointed out: the market can indeed accommodate multiple Counter-Strike games. The original Counter-Strike and its predecessor, Source, still maintain active player bases, showcasing that the tactical shooter genre remains robust. With games like Valorant also gaining popularity, it’s evident that the FPS landscape is more diverse than ever.

In summary, while CS2 may be the current favorite, CS:GO’s recent player count records remind us that there’s still plenty of love out there for the classic title. The future looks bright for the Counter-Strike franchise and the tactical FPS genre as a whole!
