Crossplay Confirmed for Call of Duty: Black Ops 1 and 2 on PS4 and PS5
In some exciting news for the Call of Duty fanbase, Activision has officially confirmed that the recently launched ports of Call of Duty: Black Ops 1 and 2 will indeed feature crossplay compatibility between PS4 and PS5. This announcement came after a wave of confusion among players on social media platforms, who were unsure of how the new multiplayer features would function.
The official Call of Duty Update account took to Twitter to clear things up, stating that players on both PlayStation consoles can team up for multiplayer matches. Even better, those who own the Season Pass will be able to matchmake with players who don’t have it, ensuring a larger pool of allies and opponents.
Activision mentioned, “PS4 and PS5 players are able to matchmake with one another. There is no cross-platform play with PS3 or any other hardware.” This clarification has surely brought some relief to gamers eager to dive back into these classic titles with friends.
Initially, when the announcement was made about Iron Galaxy developing the PlayStation ports, there was a lot of skepticism. Fans were left wondering what to expect, and when the games surprise-launched, many were taken aback by the underwhelming frame rates and resolution. The uncertainty regarding crossplay support only added to the disappointment.
However, the confirmation of crossplay, albeit a bit late, has been a silver lining for many. Despite some criticisms surrounding the ports being perceived as lacking depth, players are still flocking to the re-releases, as both Black Ops 1 and 2 have quickly climbed to the top of the PlayStation Store sales charts.
Each game is currently priced at $39.99 (approx. Rs 11,120), with a limited-time offer of $19.99 (approx. Rs 5,560) for PlayStation Plus members, while their DLC content is available for $29.99 (approx. Rs 8,340) each, or $9.89 (approx. Rs 2,750) for Plus subscribers. As these classics take gamers on a nostalgic journey, Activision is also gearing up for the next chapter in the franchise with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 on the horizon.
