Destiny 3 Dreams: A Reality Check for Bungie Fans

So, it looks like fans are really hoping for Destiny 3 to be a reality, but here’s the twist: Bungie isn’t currently working on it. With Destiny 2 wrapping up and Bungie’s new title Marathon not making waves, what’s a legendary studio to do?

A recent poll revealed that a whopping 74% of gamers want Destiny 3. A little survey to gauge the community’s feelings about Destiny 2 losing updates, I expected more varied responses. Turns out, the desire for a new installment of the beloved franchise is strong. Other options like a new IP or even a Halo revival didn’t even come close, with only 14% and 6% of votes, respectively. Poor Marathon only grabbed 2%. It’s safe to say the community isn’t feeling too optimistic about Bungie’s other projects.

The reality, however, is a bit more sobering. According to reports, Bungie is not actively developing Destiny 3, mainly due to budget constraints. Sure, they might be brainstorming ideas for a third game, but considering the lengthy production time for triple-A titles, we’re looking at a potential release not until the 2030s. Ouch!

As for the alternative, the new project with the playful codename “Gummy Bears,” it’s been separated into its own studio, so that’s another option off the table. The truth is, many fans, including myself, are just wishing for a solid campaign-driven game rather than a live-service model.

Right now, it feels like Bungie is in a bit of a pickle. The one thing everyone is clamoring for might not even be feasible, and the alternative projects just don’t seem to spark the same excitement. It’s a challenging position, especially when the hope for a Destiny-sized success from Marathon feels pretty far-fetched.

As we look ahead, the gaming landscape is always evolving. Who knows what surprises might be waiting around the corner? But for now, all we can do is keep our fingers crossed for Bungie to find a way to bring Destiny 3 to life, even if it feels like a distant dream.
