eBay Scalpers Cashing in on GTA 6 Pre-Orders: What’s Going On?

It looks like the excitement for Grand Theft Auto 6 is leading some fans to pay a premium to scalpers on eBay, even when they could easily pre-order the game elsewhere. Following the launch of pre-orders on June 25, various listings for the game have popped up on the auction site, with some scalpers asking for more than the standard retail price.

While the standard edition is set at around $80 (approx. Rs 22,240), some scalpers are flipping their pre-orders for about $90 (approx. Rs 25,020), with a few listings even exceeding that. This isn’t too shocking given that fans have been eagerly waiting for a new GTA title for over 13 years. However, it’s worth noting that there’s nothing stopping players from securing their copy at the original price directly from retailers.

In a surprising move, Rockstar has opted to go completely digital for GTA 6, ditching physical discs altogether for its upcoming release in November. For those who still want something tangible, a physical edition will be available, but it will simply include a download code inside the box. So, while there won’t be issues with stock shortages, the physical editions are still being listed on eBay.

Interestingly, some eBay listings are offering both physical boxes and digital copies. Sellers are even highlighting that buyers of digital versions won’t incur shipping fees, while those opting for the physical copies will have to pay extra for delivery on top of that inflated price.

Regardless of whether you choose to buy directly from Rockstar or take the plunge with a scalper on eBay, keep in mind that GTA 6 is set to launch on November 19, 2026, for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Plus, there are reports flying around that Rockstar has no plans to ever release a physical disc for this much-anticipated title.
