Epic Mod for The Witcher 3 Set to Revive a Cut Questline – Voice Acting Auditions Open!
The Witcher 3 is packed with quests and adventures, but it’s hard not to feel a little sad about a major storyline that didn’t make it into the final game. This particular questline was set to explore the Catriona Plague, a debilitating illness sweeping through Velen, and would have brought back one of the standout characters from The Witcher 2, the charismatic elven rebel, Iorveth.
Details about this intriguing quest were first unearthed by modders and dataminers back in 2024—shoutout to the talented team of Moonknight, Ferroxius, Crygreg, and Glassfish. But instead of just sharing the information, these modding wizards decided to take matters into their own hands and are now working on an extensive mod called The WAR Project. This ambitious project aims to recreate the Catriona Plague questline, transforming it into a sprawling 10-hour experience with 12 quests, all based on the data they dug up a couple of years ago.
Information about the mod has been shared by YouTuber xLetalis, a well-known figure in the Witcher community, who is also lending a hand in the mod’s development. The return of Iorveth is a major draw, but players can also expect deeper interactions with other characters. For instance, Geralt will have a full-fledged romance with Ves and face off against new demonic foes, courtesy of the infamous Gaunter O’ Dimm, who fans will remember from the Hearts of Stone expansion. This return also means that we’ll be encountering some stylish Nilfgaardian soldiers sporting striking vulture masks!
While there are numerous mods out there, not all of them make it to the finish line. However, the team behind The WAR Project has plenty of experience in this realm, notably with Moonknight and Glassfish, who previously worked on the Brothers in Arms mod that revamped the darker ending for Hearts of Stone. Currently, they report that The WAR Project is about 25% completed, with key features like Geralt’s romance with Ves already in the bag—plus, a demo is available for those eager to check it out.
One significant aspect that’s still in the works is voice acting. Unfortunately, the original voice lines for the cut quests are long gone, so the team is now on the lookout for talented voice actors in both English and Polish, including for the iconic Geralt himself. If you think you can channel the deep tones of Doug Cockle (which is no small feat!), auditions are now open over on the mod’s Discord server.
Mark your calendars because The WAR Project is slated to drop in February 2027. While this timeline might seem a bit ambitious considering the mod is only a quarter done, there’s a strong belief that this project will come to fruition. I can’t wait to reunite with Iorveth and dive back into this beloved universe when The WAR Project finally phases into action.
