Exciting News: New Fallout Game in the Works at Obsidian!
Big news, gamers! It looks like the Fallout universe is set to expand with multiple new titles in development, and one of those is coming from none other than Obsidian Entertainment. This is fantastic for fans, especially since Obsidian is the studio behind the beloved Fallout: New Vegas. The buzz is that Josh Sawyer might be stepping back into the director’s role for this new project!
Chris Avellone, one of the co-founders of Obsidian and a key creative force behind New Vegas, shared his excitement about Sawyer potentially leading the charge again. He expressed that having the original writer, John Gonzalez, back on board would be a game-changer. Avellone mentioned, “If they got John Gonzalez to be the lead writer again, that’s going to be awesome,” highlighting how much he enjoys Gonzalez’s storytelling. He can’t wait to see the narrative depths that Gonzalez might explore in this new title.
Interestingly, Gonzalez returned to Obsidian earlier this year after working on the Horizon series at Guerrilla Games. However, he’s been teasing that this isn’t necessarily Fallout: New Vegas 2, which might deflate some fans’ expectations. With the recent restructuring at Xbox and changes in studio priorities, it’s yet to be confirmed what Gonzalez’s role will entail moving forward.
Avellone also gave a shout-out to Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky, the creators of the original Fallout games, who are now at Obsidian. He believes it’s hard to imagine a new Fallout game without their involvement in some capacity. Avellone feels this collaboration could be a huge win for both Obsidian and Bethesda, especially given Bethesda’s lengthy development times. He suggested that having Obsidian as a “satellite studio” could help speed up the release schedule for future titles.
With Fallout 4 released over a decade ago and no solid news on Fallout 5, these developments are certainly stirring up excitement. We’ll have to keep our eyes peeled for news on what’s next for the Fallout franchise!
