Famke Janssen Calls Out Marvel for Excluding Her from Avengers: Doomsday
In a surprising turn of events, Famke Janssen, famously known for her role as Jean Grey in the X-Men films, has openly criticized Marvel Studios for not inviting her back for the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. Speaking at SpaceCon, Janssen didn’t hold back her feelings about the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and the decision-makers behind it.
Despite many of her former co-stars making their return, Janssen confirmed that she won’t be reprising her iconic role. “I’m not great at keeping secrets,” she joked, reflecting on the casting rumors surrounding the new movie. “You can read everything on my face, so perhaps they made a mistake by not bringing me back, but then again, who am I to say?”
Janssen’s version of Jean Grey has been a staple in superhero cinema, especially in the early 2000s with the original X-Men trilogy and later in films like Days of Future Past. With other X-Men legends like Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen set to make their comebacks as Professor X and Magneto respectively, fans had high hopes for her return as well.
Although she’s expressed a desire to step back into the shoes of Jean Grey, the actress has firmly stated that she won’t be part of the superhero ensemble come December. “Marvel has never reached out to me about returning,” she mentioned last November. “It’s flattering to know that the character still resonates with fans even after all these years, but it’s a bummer to be left out.”
There’s been speculation among fans regarding the absence of beloved characters like Janssen’s Jean Grey from Avengers: Doomsday. Rumors suggest that Sadie Sink might be taking up the mantle of a new Jean Grey in the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which has led some to believe that she could also play a role in future MCU projects.
The excitement continues to build as Avengers: Doomsday gears up for its release on December 18, 2026, with Robert Downey Jr. stepping into the role of Doctor Doom. While fans are eager for any potential surprises, it seems the spotlight is shifting towards new characters in the ever-expanding Marvel universe. In the meantime, those who miss Janssen as Jean Grey will have to revisit classic films like X2 and X-Men: The Last Stand to get their fix.
