Faye Steals the Show in God of War Laufey with a Nod to the Classics
Get ready for a fresh twist in the beloved God of War series! While Kratos has always been the main man, the spotlight is shifting to his late wife, Faye, in the upcoming God of War Laufey. And fans of the original Greek trilogy will definitely notice some familiar moves in her combat style.
Director Ariel Lawrence shared some insights, revealing that the team had a clear vision from the start: it was all about Faye. “We had to create a unique model for her; just slapping Kratos’ animations on Faye wouldn’t cut it,” he explained. “Her movements needed to feel distinct. However, looking back at the Greek era where Kratos demonstrated a more acrobatic flair really helped shape her combat.”
Lawrence also mentioned that the studio still boasts some veterans from the original games, making it a fun opportunity to blend past influences with new ideas. “We thought, ‘What if we take inspiration from the old school but tailor it for Faye?’ That creative process is what makes game development truly exciting!”
As seen in the recent gameplay footage, Faye won’t be going on her journey alone. She’ll be accompanied by an amusing gelatinous cube named Phranque, voiced by Jack Quaid from The Boys. Plus, there’s Rue, a magical ribbon linked to her new sword, adding a unique flair to her arsenal. And for those who loved God of War: Ragnarok, Deborah Ann Woll will reprise her role as Faye.
Even though Kratos isn’t the main character this time, fans can breathe easy knowing that Sony Santa Monica has plans for more stories featuring our favorite Spartan warrior in the future.
God of War Laufey is set to launch on PlayStation 5, although the exact release date is still under wraps. Keep your eyes peeled for more updates!
