FF14’s Solo Challenge Champion Defies the Odds Once Again with a Bold Strategy
Final Fantasy 14 has seen some jaw-dropping moments lately, and one player, RathGames, is pushing the limits of what’s possible in the game like never before. Taking on the Main Scenario Quests solo is no easy feat in an MMO designed for groups of up to eight players. But RathGames, undeterred, has been crafting his way through the challenges all on his own.
What makes RathGames stand out is his unique rule: he doesn’t accept gear from quest rewards, opting instead to create most of his equipment through crafting. The only time he bent this rule was during the Crystal Tower quest, where the game literally barred him from entering unless he teamed up with other solo challenge enthusiasts.
Recently, RathGames faced another hurdle in the Shadowbringers expansion during the epic Hades battle. Instead of abandoning his principles, he tackled this fight with a creative twist. He used a second character to help him, but here’s the catch: he multi-boxed without any cheat tools, smoothly switching between his characters. He even leveled this new character all the way through the MSQ again, all by himself!
However, the challenges kept coming, and soon he found himself at the notorious Seat of Sacrifice, which features a massive group-oriented attack called Ultimate Crossover. In a typical scenario, a tank would need to unleash a Limit Break 3 to counter this devastating move, but RathGames didn’t have that option.
Enter his alt character, dubbed Solo Savior. Instead of trying to out-damage the attack like most would, RathGames devised a clever plan. He showed up with his Blue Mage main and his healer alt, Solo Savior, ready for action. Blue Mages, known for their limited abilities, can learn a move called Self-destruct, which turns out to be pivotal in this scenario.
Just as Elidibus began to cast Ultimate Crossover, RathGames had his Blue Mage execute the Self-destruct move. What’s genius about this tactic is that he could then resurrect his Blue Mage using his Sage right after, capitalizing on the grace period that follows each resurrection. This clever timing allowed him to bypass the group mechanic completely!
Though he only needed to do this once due to the checkpoint system in the fight, the preparation involved was nothing short of monumental. The rest of the encounter was no cakewalk either, requiring Rath to skillfully manage both characters. He used the Blue Mage’s diamondback spell to evade certain doom while frequently raising his Sage alt, who often found themselves back on the ground moments after being resurrected.
RathGames’ incredible journey continues to inspire the gaming community. His unwavering determination in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds is a testament to the innovative spirit that defines gaming culture. Keep an eye on this solo challenge runner; who knows what he’ll achieve next!
