Guillermo del Toro’s Love for Dead Cells Gets a Friendly Tip from the Devs

In a recent chat with IGN, renowned filmmaker Guillermo del Toro expressed his fondness for the challenging action-roguelike, Dead Cells. However, he also mentioned the game’s tough difficulty level, wishing there was an easier way to enjoy it without the constant restarts that come with the roguelike genre.

The folks over at Motion Twin, the studio behind Dead Cells, were quick to respond and shared their delight at having such a celebrated director as a fan. They even pointed out that there’s already an “Assist mode” in the game that might be just what del Toro is looking for. “We’d like to officially add this moment into our own personal Cabinet of Curiosities,” the studio said, clearly thrilled about the mention.

They explained that this Assist mode allows players to respawn at the beginning of the current biome or at the nearest checkpoint rather than having to start all over again. This could be a game-changer for those who find the roguelike mechanics a bit too punishing.

Considering del Toro’s wish for a “version without respawning for the elderly players,” it seems the Assist mode might hit the nail on the head. Sure, he’s a prestigious director, but even he might miss some features in the heat of the moment. After all, many gamers have been there, wondering how to save their progress in a new title!

Here’s hoping del Toro gives Assist mode a go and finds it makes his adventures in Dead Cells a bit smoother!
