Harfoots Take a Backseat in The Rings of Power Season 3

It looks like the Harfoots will be stepping back in the upcoming third season of The Rings of Power. Co-showrunner J.D. Payne recently shared that fans shouldn’t expect much Harfoot action this time around. He mentioned in a chat with a magazine that it was simply their time to take a more subdued role in the story. However, he playfully reminded everyone, “never count a Halfling out.”

For those who might have missed it, the last time we saw our Harfoot pals was in the finale of season 2, where Nori and Poppy were saved by the mysterious Stranger, who fans were excited to find out is actually Gandalf. But season 3 is set to jump ahead by five years, diving straight into the intense War of the Elves. Meanwhile, Sauron is busy plotting his dark ambitions by crafting the One Ring.

The official synopsis hints at a dire situation where all of Middle-earth’s free peoples—Dwarves, Elves, Men, and Wizards—must unite to thwart Sauron’s quest for ultimate control. Given the dramatic shift and escalating stakes, it’s clear that there won’t be much room for another light-hearted Harfoot storyline.

Interestingly, the Harfoots haven’t been the most popular among viewers; their jovial, almost cartoonish nature has felt a bit out of sync with the series’ overall tone. With Gandalf now firmly established, the focus will likely remain on the weighty battles ahead.

Mark your calendars, as The Rings of Power season 3 is set to premiere on Prime Video on November 11, 2026, starting off with four action-packed episodes. Stay tuned for more updates and insights about your favorite shows!
