HoYoverse’s New Game “Varsapura” Recreates Singapore Streets in Stunning Detail

If you’ve ever wanted to explore Singapore without leaving your home, an upcoming game might make that possible. The developers behind Genshin Impact, HoYoverse, are working on a new title called Varsapura—and it’s already turning heads for its striking resemblance to real-world Singapore.

The game’s setting appears heavily inspired by areas like Bugis and City Hall. In preview footage, players can spot locations that closely resemble well-known landmarks such as Fortune Centre, Waterloo Centre, and even the Duo Towers. Streets, signage, and layouts feel familiar, though not perfectly identical—suggesting a creative adaptation rather than a direct replica.

The name Varsapura, which translates to “City of Rain” in Sanskrit, seems like a subtle reference to Singapore itself, often associated with frequent rainfall. This adds another layer of cultural inspiration behind the game’s design.

A 31-minute gameplay video shared online offers a deeper look into the experience. Around the midway point, the main character—an agent working for a group called the Shadow Emergency Alliance (SEAL)—navigates through environments that strongly echo Singapore’s urban landscape. Additional scenes hint at areas resembling Fort Canning as well.

Beyond its setting, Varsapura also stands out for its tone and gameplay style. It appears to lean into supernatural and paranormal themes, drawing comparisons to Control. Like Control, the game seems to involve mysterious forces and secret organizations, creating an eerie yet intriguing atmosphere.

At this stage, HoYoverse hasn’t announced an official release date or public testing schedule. However, the gameplay video doubles as a recruitment effort, with job openings listed toward the end—indicating that development is still actively underway.

With its blend of real-world inspiration and supernatural storytelling, Varsapura is shaping up to be one of the more unique titles to watch in the coming years.
