John Rambo Prequel Set to Arrive in 2027

Big news for action movie buffs! The upcoming prequel film, titled simply “John Rambo,” is officially scheduled for release on June 4, 2027. Lionsgate has revealed that this new flick will star Noah Centineo, and it’s set to land right smack in the middle of some heavy-hitting competition, including Shawn Levy’s “Star Wars: Starfighter” and the live-action adaptation of “How to Train Your Dragon 2.”

While details about the plot are still under wraps, we do know that the film will explore the origins of the iconic character during his tumultuous days in Vietnam. It seems Sylvester Stallone won’t be reprising his role, but he will be on board as an executive producer. Fans of the franchise might remember Stallone’s last outing as Rambo in “Rambo: Last Blood,” which didn’t get the warmest reception.

Noah Centineo, who’s also set to play Ken Masters in the upcoming “Street Fighter” movie, will take on the leading role of John Rambo. He’ll be joined by notable actors like David Harbour, who will play Major Trautman, and James Franco, who will appear in a small role—his first major Hollywood role in nearly a decade.

Jalmari Helander, known for directing “Sisu,” is at the helm of this project, working from a script penned by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani, who previously collaborated on “Black Adam.” Notably, the Russo Brothers, famous for their work in the Marvel universe, will also serve as executive producers through their production company, AGBO.

Filming for “John Rambo” wrapped up earlier this year, but it remains uncertain whether we’ll see Centineo continue the role in potential sequels. Given that the previous films already showcased significant events in Rambo’s life, filling in those gaps might be a tough challenge for a younger actor.
