Kenshiro Joins Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves – Here’s How SNK Made It Happen

Hey gamers! Exciting news just dropped for fans of the Fatal Fury series. SNK has confirmed that Kenshiro, the epic warrior from the beloved anime, will be making his way into Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves this June. We caught up with producer Shinya Tamaki and director Hayato Konya to get the inside scoop on how they managed to adapt Kenshiro’s iconic moves without crossing the line into an adult rating.

Kenshiro is known for his brutal fighting style, especially his special technique, the Hokuto Shinken, where he targets pressure points on his opponents, causing them to explode moments later. While this is a standout feature in the anime, SNK faced some challenges in incorporating it into the game while keeping their Teen ESRB rating intact. Tamaki explained how they creatively solved this issue, opting for a shadowy effect against a striking red backdrop when opponents meet their explosive fate. While blood isn’t shown directly, the impact is still satisfying for players.

“Kenshiro’s fighting style revolves around these pressure points, and while we wanted to highlight that, we had to be mindful of the game’s rating,” Tamaki shared. “Balancing his martial arts prowess with his explosive techniques was key, ensuring fans get what they expect without going too graphic.”

As for why Kenshiro was chosen as a DLC character, Tamaki revealed that his popularity in both Japan and abroad made him a fantastic pick. “Kenshiro fits perfectly into the Fatal Fury universe, especially considering how iconic he is among fighting game enthusiasts. Plus, it’s a great way to attract new players to the franchise,” he added.

It’s also worth mentioning that while Kenshiro is all set to join the lineup, SNK isn’t currently planning to develop a new game based solely on the Fist of the North Star franchise. “While many at SNK would love to create a game centered on that universe, this Kenshiro is inspired by the newer reboot series, allowing us to tap into both the game and the fresh story coming from the new show,” Tamaki explained.

In other SNK news, fans of the Art of Fighting series can breathe a sigh of relief as Tamaki confirmed that a new project is in the works, although details remain under wraps. “We can’t share specifics just yet, but we’re excited about what’s coming, and Art of Fighting’s story isn’t over,” he hinted.

With the upcoming Evo 2026 event on the horizon, things are heating up in the fighting game arena. Keep an eye on SNK for more thrilling updates and character reveals as they continue to evolve their iconic franchises!
