Meet TinySol: The Minuscule Solitaire Game That Fits in a QR Code!

In an era where game sizes are ballooning and storage options are becoming costly, the charm of a tiny game is hard to resist. Enter TinySol, a remarkable solitaire game so compact it can actually be loaded from a QR code!

This little gem comes from Classic Bits, a group passionate about vintage computing. The game was first discovered by YouTuber LGR Blerbs at the VCF Southwest convention in Texas, where he received it on an old-school 5.25-inch floppy disk—talk about a throwback!

Don’t let its size fool you; TinySol is a fresh creation that started development in 2021. According to Classic Bits, the idea was to create a small game suitable for ROM images tailored for GRiD computers, taking advantage of the sharp 640×400 resolution of AT&T 6300 monochrome displays.

Weighing in at an astonishing 3 kilobytes, TinySol invites players to engage in three-card Klondike Solitaire, all presented in simple black and white graphics. The entire game can even fit within a QR code, which is conveniently decodable via a piece of code included on its packaging.

In the comments section of Blerbs’ video, Classic Bits shared some extra details about TinySol. They explained that the monochrome design helps maintain clarity on older screens and noted that the QR code version is a smaller, low-resolution variant with some features dialed back. Currently, players can only enjoy the three-card draw mode, but there’s a one-card draw mode slated for a future update.

Good news for those eager to play: you don’t need a physical copy or a QR code to dive into TinySol. The game is available for free download on the Classic Bits website. It can be run in DosBox by simply dragging the TinySol executable onto the DosBox application. Just a heads up—many of the three-card draws in the game might not be winnable, but Classic Bits has provided 640 winning save files for you to explore if you prefer a guaranteed victory!
